Jimmy Wales Dubs ChatGPT and Elon Musk's Twitter Unreliable, Raises AI Concerns

Wikipedia co-founder, Jimmy Wales, isn't too thrilled about ChatGPT and Elon Musk's Twitter. In a recent interview at a Web Summit in Lisbon, Wales drew parallels between the skepticism around ChatGPT and the early days of eBay, suggesting that initial worries often give way to a better understanding of a technology's limitations.

Wales acknowledged ChatGPT's impressive capabilities but pointed out that upon deeper exploration, its limitations become more apparent. He believes that while the technology will likely improve over time, it's currently far from being a reliable source for information.

Taking a playful jab at Elon Musk, Wales expressed satisfaction that large language models are reading Wikipedia instead of Musk's Twitter, humorously noting that Musk's tweets are not a "great source of truth." He even confessed backstage to taking a lighthearted shot at Musk during the interview for the audience's enjoyment.

Despite the light tone, Wales hinted at genuine concerns about the responsibility of tech companies in developing powerful AI systems. Balancing the benefits and potential harm of these technologies remains an ongoing challenge that companies must address responsibly.
