Google is testing cool new AI features on YouTube that let you make music just by typing or humming!
One feature, called Dream Track, is now being tested with a small group of US creators. It automatically makes 30-second music clips that sound like your favorite artists who teamed up with YouTube. Right now, it supports styles from nine famous musicians like Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, and more.
You can see in a demo video how typing something like “A ballad about how opposites attract, upbeat acoustic” into Dream Track creates a short track in Charlie Puth’s style.
But that's not all! YouTube also showed off Music AI tools. These let you make 30-second tunes without using any instruments. In a video, they hummed a melody and typed “saxophone solo” to get a saxophone tune.
Later this year, creators in YouTube’s Music AI program will get to use these tools. The magic behind them is Lyria, a music model by Google’s DeepMind division. Tracks made with Lyria have a special mark that stays even if the sound is changed. DeepMind says this helps know if the music was made by AI.
Making music with AI is part of a bigger trend of AI making creative stuff. It’s exciting, but it could also change how we think about music and talent. We’ll have to see what happens!
