The star of the show is Claude 3 Opus. According to Anthropic, this model has outperformed both OpenAI's GPT-4 and Google's Gemini Ultra in various benchmark tests. These tests cover a wide range of skills, from basic knowledge to advanced reasoning and mathematics. Opus shines especially in areas like coding and solving complex problems.
Opus marks Anthropic's entry into multimodal AI, meaning it can analyze not only text but also images, documents, charts, and other visual data. This expands its capabilities far beyond just understanding language.
However, Opus is not the only option. Anthropic offers two other models, Sonnet and Haiku, which are more compact and cost-effective. These models cater to users who are budget-conscious but still want powerful AI capabilities. While Opus and Sonnet are already available in 159 countries, Haiku is set to follow soon.
The latest models also come with expanded token limits. Opus, for example, can now summarize documents up to 150,000 words, a significant increase from the previous limit of 75,000 words. Large companies like Airtable and Asana have already tested these models in real-world scenarios during private trials.
Anthropic has quickly emerged as a major player in the AI industry, competing directly with giants like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI. With support from backers like Google and Amazon, the company has secured significant funding, totaling around $7.3 billion.
