There's a new AI called Suno, which means "listen" in Hindi, that can make music tracks from scratch, including vocals and lyrics. It's like those AI picture generators, but for music.
I tried Suno's web app, and it's pretty cool. You give it a simple description, like "an electronic song with heavy bass about AI taking over the world," and it creates a whole song in about 45 seconds. The AI makes the melody, instruments, and even sings with lyrics related to your prompt.
The songs I got were catchy, but they sounded more like commercial music than something you'd hear on your favorite streaming platform. The lyrics made sense but were a bit cringey. What surprised me was how human-like the vocals sounded, with a strange passion that you wouldn't expect from AI-generated music.
Suno isn't the first AI music maker, but it's unique because it focuses on making original music, not copying real artists or using copyrighted material. If you ask it to make a song like one from The Weeknd, it won't do it. It wants you to be original.
The sound quality isn't perfect yet. The songs had a bit of a fuzzy sound, but you can still download them as MP3s or videos with lyrics.
You can make up to 10 songs a day with Suno for free, or pay $8 a month for up to 500 songs. It's a fun tool to play with, but AI music is still more of a novelty than something professional musicians use. However, as these AI generators get better, they could change the music industry and raise questions about who owns creative work.
For now, though, Suno is just a fun way to experiment with music. You can try it out at app.suno.ai.
