Google Drive, a popular cloud storage service, is getting a boost in video loading time with a new update. The company also announced enhancements to the search function within the app.
In a blog post, Google mentioned the addition of support for Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH). This feature adjusts the video quality based on the network speed, leading to smoother playback. It automatically changes the video resolution depending on the network quality, reducing the time it takes for videos to start playing and minimizing buffering issues.
While newly uploaded videos on Google Drive will automatically benefit from DASH, existing videos will receive this update by the end of the year.
Besides improving video loading, Google is also enhancing the search experience on iOS devices, with Android support coming later. The Drive search bar now includes three new filters: Type, People, and Modified. The People tab shows files from recent contacts, Type organizes files by their type, and Modified lists files by date.
These new features are currently available to Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.
