Truecaller, a popular app for identifying and blocking spam calls, has rolled out a new feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI) called 'Max.' This feature, currently available on the Android version of the app, aims to identify and block unwanted calls, even if the caller's number is not listed in Truecaller's database.

According to reports from TechCrunch, Truecaller's AI technology analyzes incoming calls to determine whether they are spam or legitimate. Previously, the app relied solely on its extensive database of phone numbers to identify spam calls. However, with the new AI tool, Truecaller can now effectively block calls from unknown numbers and potential spammers.

As of now, the AI-powered feature is exclusive to Truecaller Premium subscribers using Android devices. This limitation is due to Apple's restrictions, which prevent caller ID services like Truecaller from fully operating on iOS devices. Nevertheless, Truecaller is continuously exploring ways to enhance spam call protection without compromising user experience.

To activate the new feature and shield yourself from spam calls, open the Truecaller app on your Android phone, navigate to 'Settings,' and select 'Block.' From there, set the protection level to 'Max,' and you're all set to enjoy enhanced spam call defense.

This initiative from Truecaller comes amid efforts by regulatory authorities like the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to address spam calls. TRAI's proposed Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) aims to provide users with caller name information, similar to Truecaller's functionality, potentially aiding in the identification of spam calls.

However, Truecaller's services have faced opposition from telecom providers such as Airtel, Jio, and Vodafone Idea, citing concerns over subscriber data privacy. Despite these challenges, Truecaller remains committed to leveraging AI technology to combat spam calls and enhance user privacy and security.
